As an esthetician I would have to say I also hear some of
I Want a Treatment to Remove My Wrinkles
The causes of wrinkles are varied. Age, genetics and environmental
factors affecting the skin can cause wrinkles. Wrinkles don’t appear on
the skin overnight; neither is removing them a quick process. There are
many claims by companies and skin care professionals claiming to have a
miracle product or service that will dissipate all signs of aging skin,
including wrinkles. At best, injectables, laser treatments and cosmetic
surgery are proven methods to help reduce the visible signs of aging.
No money for those treatments? Look for a skincare system that can help
slow the aging process of your skin.
My Skin is too Oily for Moisturizer
Using a moisturizer is important for maintaining healthy skin,
regardless of the amount of oil produced. If you have oily skin, you
may tend to think that drying it out is the best option for controlling
breakouts. However, drying out the skin often results in even more
sebum production. This excess sebum, along with a dry epidermis,
accumulates within the follicles, resulting in more breakouts. Look for
an oil-free hydrator that is non-comedogenic.
I Don’t Use Sunscreen Because I Don’t Lay Out in the Sun
Everyone knows the damaging effects of the sun. However, most do not
understand that sunscreen must be worn on a consistent basis. Sun
damage is cumulative and occurs at any time. Whether it is hot, cold,
cloud or rainy outside, the sun’s damaging rays are always present. Take
a look at the left side of your face if you drive your car a fair
amount of time. Look for a sunscreen that is SPF15 to SPF 30 Broad
Spectrum formula. Anything over a SPF30 does not give you much more sun
protection but a lot more chemicals.
I Have Sensitive Skin, So I Only Use All-Natural Products
Many people think they have sensitive skin because they may have had
adverse reactions to treatments or products that were not right for
their skin. There are many that claim to be gentle, especially skin
care products that include all-natural ingredients labeled ones. But
allergic reactions are caused by natural elements like peanuts, seeds,
coconut, mushrooms, flowers and citrus fruit. Look to your skincare
professional for help for the right product for your skin condition.
I Want to Close My Pores
I love hearing this statement. If I had a dollar for every person
who asked me this question, I could be retired living on the coast of
Hawaii. Pores help to protect the skin by secreting sebum to moisturize
and excrete waste through sudoriferous glands. If your pores were
closed, your skin would not have the ability to function normally. Using
steam has been said to open pores, when in reality steam or hot towels
help to soften hardened sebum and surrounding skin, making extractions
easier to perform. As we age, we lose elastin and collagen and our skin
starts to sag, making our pores appear larger. Ask your esthetician
about exfoliating treatments and skin-tightening procedures that can
help reduce the appearance of your large pores.
